I replaced my bathroom vent on our 2006 Fleetwood Jamboree 31m. We never used the fan on the old vent so I thought I would save a few bucks and buy a vent w/out the fan. So I cut the wires to the fan , I wire nut them,electrical tape, put the vent on. Good right, no.... When I turn the house batteries on at the disconnect I get nothing.Plugged into the house I have power, So I unplug from the house, start the rig up and hit the disconnect and it pops and comes on.I turned the rig off and the house batteries are still on. So the last couple days I have been turning on and off the batteries at the disconnect and appears to be good,last night I hit the disconnect and I have no power again.I plugged it into the house over night and tried the disconnect this morning and it come on.At the panel the Main battery is at 3/4 full and the Aux is at 1/4. I turned it off at the disconnect and tried to turn back on and got nothing. I could of touched the fan wires when I cut them and shorted somthing maybe.? I have checked all the fuses and they check out ok. Thanks in advance for any advise.

Can you see if you still have power at your old fan wires?

Do you mean while plugged into the house. ? I may be able to get to them from inside the rig. I'll try when I get home.

Another test you should do is make sure you haven't blown the in-line fuse close to the battery... Sounds like it is ok since things does run now from the battery. I would use a DC multimeter and measure across the two battery terminals to make sure which should read 12.6-7VC if the battery is fully charge. When you connect up to shore power it should read at least 13.6VC telling you the battery is being charged.Most of my DC wiring in a 2-conductor cable so if that is what you have at the fan when you use a cutter to cut it lose it would cut across the positive and negative DC wires at the same time thus blowing a fuse somewhere or tripping a DC auto reset breaker...It would be a good idea to make sure your battery is being charged ok when on shore power otherwise it keep draining down on you and won't be there to use when you need it... If it drains down below 12.0VDC and not get re-charged back up in a timely manner it may do internal damage to the battery and need replaced.We enjoy the roof mounted fans especially when camping off the power grids where we can turn both the bath room and the bedroom ceiling fans ON and let them pull in fresh air through a couple of up front slightly raised window. Pulls cool air into the trailer at night... Actually having the vent fan in the bath area is pretty important for removing steam from the shower when being used. The steam from the shower could do some wall damage for you and needs to be pulled out of the room as soon as possible. Royb - I have the Interstate 6 volt Golf Cart Batteries.If the inline fuse at the battery was blown wouldn't it not work at all.?

It sounds to me your problem is probably with your batteries. They are either not getting or not holding a charge. When plugged into your house 110 Volts is running into your MH which your converter is changing/converting to the 12 volts needed to run your MH lights. Without that external source of power your batteries aren't supplying the 12 volts needed for your lights.

Here's some battery information where it states a fully charged 6 Volt shold read 6.3 Volts

It's interesting to see how much the state of charge drops as the voltage drops even slightly. (look at the chart in the link)

So that means you are getting 12V power in the motor home, but only when hooked up to shore power. So 12 volts is getting to your batteries through your converter but they are not holding a charge.
You must have a bad battery/batteries or bad connections.

Maybe I'm not understanding his post, but it sounds to me that he is not trying to get power to the fan, (which he disconnected) but he has no 12V power for lights etc., unless he is connected to his home's 110/120V power.

Most likely that you blew a fuse when you cut through the two wires going to the fan. Fuse is likely to be located in the power panel or in the house battery compartment. You should have a cheap Harbor Freight multimeter or equivalent for checking battery voltage at the two cut wires or other connections and for monitoring your house batteries voltage levels. You can also use meter's Ohm settings to check for good/poor electrical connections. Any RV'er needs to learn to monitor and maintain batteries, connections and electrolyte levels.
