No propane flow

I have a 2014 FR3 30DS, and after pulling into camp yesterday we were not getting any propane to our appliances. The propane tank is full, valve is open, but no flow. I looked down and saw the Safe T Alert Propane Gas Alarm was not on (no lights), and attempted to reset it but cannot reset. I was told to check the fuse, but I do not know where the fuse is located for this. I am thinking that if the fuse is blown, then the safety mechanism kicked in and has stopped the flow of propane. Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated!

  • Here's how I'd approach it.

    1. Make sure you have 12+ volts at the battery terminals. If not, correct the problem. If you recently connected the battery terminals, make sure you did not reverse them when you reconnected. If the polarity is reversed, the detector will not function.

    2. Access the fuse/circuit breaker panel. Check each of the 12V spade fuses and make sure they are not open. Replace if bad.

    3. Pull the detector from the cabinet and use a DVM to check for 12V at the input wires. If no voltage, trace the wires and determine if there is an in-line fuse that has opened. If so, replace it.

    4. If you have 12V at the detector and it's still not functioning, contact
    Safe-T-Alert at 1-800-383-0269.

Here is the operating manual for the detector:

  • Your LP detector HAS the LP electric solenoid. That means if on the Safe T alert wall panel you have NO lights, then the LP system will not turn ON. Remove the wall panel(2 screws) and hopefully the panel has an in line fuse(not common). Then go to the COACH (not chassis) battery area, which on most FR's is at the entry step area. They usually have the LP detector on a separate fuse holder at that area. Check ALL the fuses at that area as well as the interior 12 volt fuse panel for the coach. Doug
  • If you have an old tank there could be a problem with the valve. As my Lions Club concession chairperson we go through about 20+ refills per year using 2 tanks and after a few years the valves will not open when turned on. I've taken the canisters to our propane distributer and they can sometimes get the value to release by opening the valve and slamming the bottom of the canister on concrete but doesn’t always work and we have to replace the canister.
  • Try turning the tanks off and on. When you open the propane valves, be sure and open the valves gradually a little at a time until you get propane in the stove, you should be able to hear the propane entering, now try lighting the stove. Don't just turn them on all at once.

I tried that based on some of the other posts on here, but it did not seem to change. I also attempted leaving the burner on to purge any air in the lines, attempting to light every minute or so. Neither remedy worked.

Dick (DJGarcia). If this unit is equipped with the Safe T Alert LP detector that has a gas shut off relay, it's most likely the problem if the indicator light is not on.

Thanks for the information, might need it later on:)

  • First, you need a solid 12V to the Safe T Alert system in order for it to work. Do you have good battery voltage?

Can you post the model of Safe T Alert you have and I'll try to let you know where the fuse is.
