The vehicle registration defines what class vehicle the RV is considered to be according to the state of registration.....my 38' is registered as a Private Passenger Vehicle....identical to my car and jeep. Nice thought, but just because your 38'er is licensed as a passenger vehicle doesn't mean it will fit on the road. Visit Long Island and all the parkways have "NO Trucks" signs. The reason is that most overpasses are less than 10', some less than 8'. There is a big traffic jam about once a month when a semi ignores the sign and gets lodged under an overpass on the Northern State Parkway.
My Suburban is licensed is a "private passenger vehicle", but when I'm towing the trailer I'm 55+' long and 11' tall, so I don't expect to be able to go everywhere I can without the trailer.
Part of the frustration is that you can't tell if the "No trucks" sign is there just for noise abatement or a legitimate road issue where a truck-sized vehicle won't fit.
