After posting, I went out and found the problem and it turned out to be the little black box with a printed circuit board inside and the Norcold recall revision that was added back in 2011 by a previous owner. By passed it and it works fine, so need to find a replacement and it could also be the sensor itself that feeds info to the board. Before I call Norcold and if anyone knows of a source, I like knowing about it, but who knows, it could be a freebee from Norcold, anyway. I've looked on both Amazon and eBay so far, to no avail.
I did try the magnet routine and maybe it just wasn't strong enough, so will give that one another go. Is the red LED supposed to be on or off and it's been doing both, as well as being on, when I found it in error this morning?

Norcold has the boxes, no charge if yours is bad. Use a stronger magnet. after resetting, look into ARP. It could save your frig and your life.
