I'm seeing these TV ad's for the "New cooking methods" using Induction cooking and it looks like a counter top single burner. my question is they say it takes less power but are these safe to use in our Motor Homes ? if they draw less power I would say Yes, however in so many things if it is to good to be true, then....you guessed it...it's not true.. so has anyone bought one of these and tested the Power usage and electric pull in the wiring of the RV ? are these safe ? or just, Well TV....being that we use shore power for the most part it would be great if it were true, but I do not want to either burn up my rig, or short out the power for the line of rigs along side of me.Thank you for any insightHappy and Safe Travels to all,

No, I do not have one... I have two. One for the home and one for the RV. They are 1300-1500 watts so work off a 15 amp circuit. The DW rarely uses the good gas cook top in the RV if we are hooked to shore power. Requires the use of magnetic cookware... not pure SS but some SS will still work as they are not pure SS. If a magnet will stick to it, it will work so no alum. Very fast heat and you can find them for less than $50 on Ebay and well worth it.

We recently purchased a single burner convection cooktop from Amazon for $75. After a significant research we found it was best to have up to 1800 watts and the one from Amazon had it and figured give it a try. It certainly boils water quickly and cooks eggs well. It takes a few times to get used to the heat setting. The nice thing the only heat comes from the pan and not from the burner which was our objective. :C

They are already installing them in some new model motor homes. I know Winnebago and Tiffin are using them in select models.(Upgrade)

We have a induction burner for RV and Induction range in house. DW uses RV unit all the time. Heats fast and does not create heat in RV like using gas burner.Induction cookware can be expensive. We found the most at Ikea. They also had some of the best prices.

We also have one in the home and one in the MH. We love them. I like the fact I can set either power level or temperature. We're looking to upgrade the one in the MH to a two burner. If the first burner is set at 10 (max power) and you turn on the second burner to 3, it lowers the first to 7, so as to not exceed the 15 amp rating.

I just saw one at Wallyworld yesterday in the "As Seen on TV" section. I think it was $99, the same price I paid for mine at Bed Bath and Beyond. Although with BBB I was able to use a 20% off coupon IIRC.

We bought a Nu-Wave at Fred Meyer while on the road last summer. I use it in the house when we aren't RVing. It is great. Ours was just under $100. Wouldn't buy one from TV ad as didn't want to pay the extra S/H.

We lucked out as we had cookware that we could use on it. Just put a magnet on the bottom of the pan and if it sticks then you can use it.

What do you think about using a Nuwave in a motorhome with NO shore power but about 500 watts of solar and a couple house batteries?

Due to my wife's sensitivity to hydrocarbon fumes, I removed my gas stove and replaced it with a large cutting board upon which I use an single induction burner. I have a second one for two reasons: the first is as a backup just in case one of the quits, and second reason is so that I can plug the second one in on the other side of the coach which is a different electical circuit. If needed, I can then use two of them on high if needed. Haven't needed to yet.

Best device to come along in a while. We use a single unit to prepare most of our meals these days. Got a great receipe for deep dish pizza from macheezmo.com. Browning the crust on induction unit in cast iron skillet three minutes or less (some experimenting required) is a key part.

I have looked at their web page and know quite a bit about them

Q: Are they safe to use in an RV? A: Yes

Q: Are there downsides to them? A: yes

Q: What are they: A: follows.

Some of the downsides are that they only work with METAL pans, if you have any glass pans (Corning ware for example) they will not work.

Second they may not work with all metal pans

They also prefer a pan with a FLAT bottom, if the pan is warped they won't work as well.

Finally they are expensive (roughly 100 bucks plus S&H v/s 16 for my hot metal job) and with the up-sell you can get right close to 3 times that when you call in.. .Or so the complaints web site said.

I did not read enough of the complaints web site to get a good feel for it, but the up-sell and the "Just pay S*H for the 2nd one" (the amount of the S&H) were the biggies.

And if you mail order it do not forget to declare the purchase on your state tax return and pay use tax.. Some states are going after that now.

Our kids bought us two of them for our RV. We have not really used them other than to test to see how fast they boil water. We will only use one (15a) and save on some propane.

A few years ago the DW got one to try in the RV. Within a year of that we got a full size one for the house. In our new RV the gas stove has never been lit.

My only suggestion is to not buy it from the TV ad or online as they offer you buy one get one free...just pay S & H for the "free" and it is $39.95!!! Also they offer many, many "additional" items you might want, each with their own S & H! We thought about getting one and went thru the website but decided not to purchase. I may look at Amazon.
