Oak Plantation Campground - Charleston, SC

Anyone ever been? Good, bad? Considering going before Christmas.
  • About the only thing that I can add, is the main road in the campground has speed bumps which seem to be every 20 ft or so (just kidding-not that close) which are annoying. As 2Retired said the traffic on the road in front of the campground can be very heavy during rush hour, so try to arrive/depart at off peak hours.
  • about 10 miles right on the main drag there..goes right in..but parking can be a bear in downtown....we stayed at one of the front lux sites....good place..2nd that pub in the nearby shopping center..great food
  • Great review! Thanks! We only take one small dog with us traveling, so that shouldn't be a problem. Any rules about adult beverages? How far to downtown Chucktown?
  • Been there several times. Over stated as a "Resort" but a nice campground. Just south of Charleston, near anything you could want or need. Traffic on the highway can be intense, but just turn right, take the first right and turn into the new shopping center to make the left towards Charleston. (BTW, a great local pub there!) Sites are large enough for even the biggest rigs with enough space between to be comfortable. About half have concrete patios. Bath houses are clean, comfortable and provide adequate privacy. Camp store is inadequate, but so much is so close (including Wally World) that it doesn't have to carry much more. Rather strongly enforce pet rules and there is an enclosed dog run that some feel is inadequate. Paved interior roads that have an excessive number of speed bumps! Wi Fi isn't all that reliable and no cable TV. Great access for Satellite TV at most sites however. Enough shade to be comfortable. We enjoy the CG and go there at least every 6 months when we visit Charleston. Prefer it to Mt. Pleasant KOA. James Island County Park is our favorite in the area but doubt very much you'd be able to get a ressie there in Christmas season. Suggest using www.rvparkreviews.com for other's opinions.
