Yes, my 2005 Class C has a 2005 Ford E450 chassis under it ... so what I mentioned about my 5 speed transmission does not apply in your situation.

Hopefully your 4R100 4-speed will turn out to be more rugged than my original 5R110 5-speed turned out to be!

What is different E-350 van with V-10 vs E-450 cutaway starts behind the transmission. Heavier dually rear axle (with bigger brakes but no parking brakes) on heavier springs, lame parking brake on transmission output shaft, no rear lighting. Maintenance procedures are the same for 4R100 and lighter 4R series transmissions used with the V-8 engines more often found in the van.

I don't think you'll be finding giveaways on old Workshop Manuals for E-450 components, as only the truck dealers would have subscribed to the series, and some only if they needed to do so to take care of a customer. Since I have not tried to subscribe, I don't even know what E-450 specific manuals might have been published for Ford by Helm.

While there are differences in a cutaway cab/chassis, and a full van, the differences will be minimal, and most service information will carry over from one to the other.

Either of the ones you cite are probably good choices, I suspect they are the same info in each one, and I also saw some printed manuals, original Haynes, for some years.

Since my 2005 is on a 2004 Chassis (since it has the 4R100 trans), am I looking for 2004 Ford E450 service/workshop manuals? Will these cover an RV chassis? It reads as though they only cover vans. I entered the year, model and selected trim as RV cut-away 2 door chassis and it stated NOT compatible.

Last summer when going out our driveway beginning a 10,000 mile trip across the U.S. in our 2005 E450 small (24 foot) Class C, the transmission started to fail. Temporarily postponing our trip, we limped into town directly to a transmission shop. The transmission fluild level and color was fine. I even had the fluid changed at around 25,000 miles. A couple of clutches in the tranny had failed for some strange reason with onlly about 51,000 miles on the vehicle. Instead of waiting the several days for them to rebuild it, in a couple of days they had installed a heavy duty option remanufactured 5R110 transmission and we were on our way. The remanufactured transmission seems to shift smoother and is in general more well-behaved than the original one ever was. Maybe whatever is different in a heavy duty build is the reason for the improved performance.

A blown transmission in our 2005 E450 after only 51,000 miles was a real surprise to both ourselves and the transmission shop. We have no idea what we could have done or not done to make it fail. The remanufactured transmission has a 3-year unlimited mileage warranty.

You can get the service manual information on the web via subscription. I signed up for a 1 or 2 day subscription and downloaded most of it for my '03 E-450.
