- GoldencrazyExplorerThere are some channels that seem to get things wrong a great deal and usually by omission. The headlines often do not tell the story. If you are just listening to an attractive face and have no desire for accuracy then you understand the limitations. Clearly the best source for information was not the media. Thanks to those who posted the facts Local news is often best for these issues as national news are basically hit and run. I do agree with many of the posters that if the conditions are severe enough to limit travel for many vehicles it should be an alert to everyone to make an effort to wait no matter whether it is lawful or not.
- jerseyjimExplorer"Not real news" from folks that never watch that station. Guess MSNBC is their bible. With honest Rev Al.......
That being said, here in NJ, if there is a ban on certain vehicles (happened to me years ago...I was not aware)....not long after I used my EZPass to get on the Turnpike, a cop pulled me over and made me get off at the next exit.
Now...."self propelled motorhome" are exempt. What about those motorhomes that pull a toad or trailer? WOuld that fall under the "towed by passenger vehicles"? - J-RoosterExplorer

I can't imagine a set of triples running in the snow. Out here in the West Coast there prohibited from November to March due to weather.
From the OFFICIAL State website:
" When a Travel Ban is placed into effect, the following types of vehicles shall be banned from traveling the Ohio Turnpike until the Travel Ban is canceled:
All triple-trailer combination commercial vehicles
Box-type double-trailer combination commercial vehicles in excess of ninety (90) feet in length.
Mobile home / Office trailers.
Boat and horse trailers towed by passenger vehicles or pickup trucks.
High-profile campers and enclosed trailers, which are defined as trailers designed for a person of average height to stand in.
Not included in the Travel Ban are self-propelled motor homes, low-profile trailers, fold-down camper trailers, pickup trucks with slide-on camper units, vehicles towing fifth-wheel type trailers, or any other type of trailers towed by passenger vehicles or pickup trucks. Also excluded from the Travel Ban are commercial trucks towing single flatbed or box-type trailers, flatbed double-trailer combinations in excess of ninety (90) feet and any double-trailer combination commercial vehicles less than ninety (90) feet."
Note that Fox news had nothing to do with this exercise in foolishness! - mowermechExplorerFrom the OFFICIAL State website:

Looks like no ban on any type of RV
1) It was not 'Fox News' the cable TV network - it was a local TV station.
2) Fully agree - why would anyone want to be out in such a mess.
I understand travel plans, reservations, etc - but sometimes you just need to sit parked and wait out the bad travel conditions.
Being late, losing a reservation deposit, etc - are all much less penalties than losing the rig, and possible injury or death. - denlockExplorerWho would want to be out in this in a RV anyhow? It's not like they didn't give enough warning on the news that it was coming.

This from the official Turnpike site...

- tommy_gExplorerIf we assume that most all of us only use our rigs when we WANT to, why would anyone WANT to be there during the storm?
