Your Allison 1000 transmission needs it's fluid changed every 25,000 miles, it has a spin-on filter.
It came with Dexron iii and I suggest you switch to Transynd.
The transmission is easy to drain and the filter is orange and looks like a small oil filter. I change the filter every time...it's about $20.
When you drain the transmission use a bucket that has quarts marked on the sides and then refill with that same mount, assuming you checked the transmission fluid before draining and it was full.
It will drain approximately 11 quarts.
The Allison 1000 transmission should be hot and in park with the engine running when you check the level.
Drive for several miles, 25 or more, and then drain and refill again. That ensures a complete change because the torque converter holds a couple quarts that don''t drain.
not sure where you get the idea the Allison needs its fluid changed every 25k miles.... I could of swore my manual said service at 75 0r 80,000... No way the fluid needs changed at 25,000 I will have to check my Manual
outofplace your's is a 2005. They went to Transynd synthetic that year and the change interval is a lot longer.
Bird Freak's was before Transynd too so his is the shorter change interval. - Bird_FreakExplorer II

Don't get that even if you can find it (WH parts were marked up pretty high). All who told you to get a filter for a Chevy 8.1L V8 at an autoparts store are correct.
If you're looking for some more info on parts & upgrades for your Workhorse chassis, here's a good source Oemy's. - ArchHoaglandExplorerYour Allison 1000 transmission needs it's fluid changed every 25,000 miles, it has a spin-on filter.

With your help and tips I finally got around changing the oil on my RV. It was easy and simple. Now, fisrt week of May we're going to Carabelle Beach, FL see how that works. CAN'T WAIT!
- cmarqExplorer23hotrodr is correct NAPA has all your filters for workhorse I have a 2003 37A Pace Arrow. NAPA Gold filters are WIX I use the 1 quart one just gives more filtration area. There is a web site "Omeys" that has loads of info for work horse parts including DIY projects. just a FYI the NAPA filter wrench that fits on the bottom of the filter makes removal much easier.
- Tom_BarbExplorerI plugged your part number into the Google search window and there was a whole list of filters for your coach/engine. this is but 1.
http://www.filterspro.com/detail.cfm?part=2366617 - jplante4Explorer IIJust look at the number on the filter that's currently in there.
