Oil filled front hubs

How can you tell looking at the sight glass on the hub. There doesn't seem to be any marks for full or low oil. It has the words minimum oil level. But it doesn't show just where the level for minimum oil level is.
My oil level is just a bit below the center of the rubber plug on the center of the hub . It is an 06 Winnebago Adventure /work horse chassis.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
  • When adding oil to hubs, don't forget that it takes a while for the oil level to stabilize. Don't get in a hurry, add oil and wait a while for the oil level to stabilize.
  • If you have oil UP TO the CENTER of the rubber plug....you have too much in it.

Like one posted stated its like a differential. Pull the plug and when oil stops running out put the plug back in.
  • Thanks a bunch. Hubs oil were up good , did not need to add any oil.

When you cannot see oil it's time to add till it comes out where the rubber plug goes in. Since your's is half way up the rubber plug it has plenty. Go camping.
X2. Perfect answer, especially the last sentence.
  • Go to irv2.com Workhorse owners site.

When I had my WH chassis. I beleave I kept the oil in the hubs about half full.
Used 80 or 90 weight oil.

Thanks a bunch for the info, but like I say there are no lines on mine. I bought the coach brand new, there never has been any lines on the sight glass.

It's kinda like your rear differental pull the plug and fill until it comes out of the plug hole and yer done.

  • This is from the WH manual: Oil filled hubs
Basically you pull the rubber plug from the center and fill it with oil. Any excess will run out. Put the plug back in and you are done.
