oil filled hubs/front wheels

These oil filled front wheels hubs has a minimum mark, but not a maximum mark. Mine is just about a 32 sec above the minimum. I trying to figure out if I need to add a little.
I'm getting ready to take a pretty long trip. Your opinion would be appreciated.
Thank you
  • If you’re just above the minimum mark, yes, you should add some oil.
If there is a minimum mark, there should also be a maximum mark, which is usually about 1/8” to 1/4” from the center ( top ) of the reservoir.
  • The MAXIMUM mark is as full as you can fill it until it starts to run out the center hole after the rubber plug is removed. In other words, if you remove the rubber plug in the center, you cannot over fill the hub.

Do not do this, it will over fill the seal on the inside of the hub, when it does, it ruins the brake lining of that wheel.
    oily brake = not good.
Running near the min mark isn't that bad. but remember add only 2 oz at a time, it shows up at the window first then it must flow thru the bearing and settle out before you get a correct reading. I do mine first thing in the morning.

This is the correct method and one that is used by all commercial haulers.
It wont get to the brakes unless the seal is bad. If the seal is indeed bad, it wont matter how much oil is in there.

  • This is my type of hub, you fill to the line only as directed by the axle manufacturer.
