Oil filter leaking

My 2015 Ford E450 V10 is having issues with the oil filter. I am on my second oil change doing it myself. Both times I used Mobil 1 synthetic oil and filter. I followed the procedures for filter change (removed old gasket, wiped clean added new oil on new filter gasket and threads) only tightening 3/4 of a turn once contact is made. But it leaks and so I have to give it almost a 1/4 turn more to get it to stop. Now a week after the oil change and a few hours of driving, , I see it has more drip marks at the bottom of the filter. It can't be residue from the oil change at this point.
Any suggestions.

    Why not?

Should not be an issue. I ran Mobil 1 5w-20 EP with the FL-820S filter for 4300 miles over 21 months and had an oil analysis done and did not see any problems.

Running the racing version now to try out since it has more filtering area and the filtering material is at least part synthetic.
  • I have never seen this leakage problem with the standard Ford filter FL-820S. I did see a leakage problem when I decided to try out the Ford racing version of the FL-820S which has the filter part number M-6731-FL820. I tightened the filter extra tight for a cure.

  • My filter gaskets always staid on the filter.
I use the Ford brand and there filter number.
  • Never had a V10 filter leak. I have a MH V10, PU V10, and sold an older V10 PU. Of coarse I use Ford 5W-20 oil and Ford filters. I suspect wrong filter. Just because they say another brand fits doesn't mean it will. Or gasket wasn't removed before installing new filter. I never try to re-engineer the engineers that designed and built the engine. I just use what they recommend and never a problem.
  • What brand of filter are you using? Double check to make sure you are using the correct filter. I have always stuck with a name brand filter and have never had a leak problem and always do my own services. If you have to over tighten it you run the risk of tearing or damaging the gasket and will have a worse problem. I have always just tightened them hand tight and not counted the turns etc.

    Hope this helps.
  • Did the seal from the first filter stay stuck to the block? If this happens you'll get a leak as the 2 seals don't seal together very well, take the filter off and check before something serious happens. You can reinstall the filter or just replace it and top up the oil level.
