Was fooling around installing my trucenter and noticed oil on my inner dual. Smells like differential fluid. Guessing axel seal. Made a appointment for repair next Tuesday. Im a little nervous. This will be the first time sence rving (20 years) that I have had a shop do a repair besides tires and a front end aligninment. Sence I purchased this rv last year with no service records I changed all filters,oil and tranny fluid to transynd. I'm going to have them adjust slack adjusters,lube chassis change air dryer and check front end for any lose or worn parts.

Don't fret too much......yet.I've found gobs of "stuff" on the wheels of 3 different cars I've owned and NONE of it came from my vehicle.A thorough inspection at a shop came to the conclusion that another vehicle dropped some axle grease or whatever and my tire picked it up.Let's hope that will be the case for you too.

It's a relatively easy fix, but you must jack the coach, pull the rear axel, hub and brake assembly to change the seal. these components are not light. the seal is about 25 bucks. clean up is the biggie

If that is the case the mechanic MAY suggest that you do both sides at the same time.

Have chg several axle seals on this type diff., not a hard job for a shop, I have done it in a couple of hrs. JMHO

I strongly suspect that none of that would really be considered "easy" for the average Motor Home owner, class A or C or 5er.

Most owners I know would have trouble just handling a loose wheel with tire and probably won't have the equipment necessary to loosen the lug nuts either.

I'll wager there isn't any one reading this that can man handle my rear hub back into position with out banging the seal. In this case power tools are your friend. Truck shops have wheel dollies and smooth floors to make the job look easy. It ain't.

Just one of my seals replaced by a regular automotive shop that does some truck work. $275, not too bad.

I also had a leak on the rear duals and it was a wheel seal leak. They had to replace the brake pads on that side because it was covered in oil. I had them replace the seal on the other side and the brake shoes while they working on the coach. The seal replacement, the brake shoe replacement and replacing the oil in the front hubs cost $410.

AXLE not Axel which is someones name. Jack it up and pull the wheel and replace the seal. It's easy. It will affect braking if it gets on the brakes.

Both sides were leaking after a trip to Florida in 2014. Cleaned the vent tube. No leaks after the trip this year.

Leak was caused by expansion from heat.

Are you sure you need to replace the seals?
