OK lets talk Brute Tow Bar's.

New to dinghy towing guys, help me out here :B
Any problems with this brand? Give me the good, bad and ugly.
MH I'm thinking about comes with one and the toad would be a newer 1500 pickup under 5k lbs, hitch is rated at 10k.
I saw a short video, not sure how easy the brake pedal install would be on the toad :W
Thanks

If you're talking about the Ready Brute Elite towbar, I've been using one for 8 years. It is easy to hook up to the Blue Ox baseplate I've got on the CRV. Easy to remove from the RV if I want to. Performance is fantastic. The inertia braking has always worked properly - no lockups or failures to engage. From open flat highway to steep mountain roads, it has worked fine.

I also got the "Protect a Tow" mat from Night Shift Auto when I got the tow bar. This is mesh heavy-duty fabric that runs from the bumper of the RV to the bumper of the tow vehicle. I can't say enough positive about it.. no rock chips on the tow (but tow does get very dusty especially when I drive on gravel roads). I needed to replace the edge elastic after 6 years of use but the fabric is still fine. No complaints from this user.

Did you encounter any problems connecting the brake cable to the toad brake? Was there any problem relative to adding the proper tension on the cable?

Everything needed to connect the cable to the brake pedal is included in the hardware kit. It's not difficult, and the instructions are quite clear. I added a turnbuckle to my hookup cable to make adjustments easier, but after the initial stretch was taken up in the first few hundred miles of towing, but since then, I haven't needed to change anything except when I moved the setup from one toad to another.

  • 40,000 plus towing miles with a ReadyBrute Elite tow bar and brake system, with zero problems.
  • I believe the tow max is 8K on the Ready Brute. I've used mine for 6 years now with no problems. Easy peasy and there's no extra braking system to attach.

I do, however, recommend the ReadySTOP which is an add on for less than $100 that will stop your toad if it ever comes detached from your rig so you don't kill someone else....Dennis

  • Don't think there is anything wrong with three equipment, but don't know of any 1500 pickup under 5000 lbs that you can tow. Most probably closer to 5300 to 5500 lbs. But if everything rated for 10,000 lbs you should have no problem
