We bought an old 1992 American Eagle. We had and my husband has done a lot of catch up maintenance on it. Had no maintenance records on it. We think it sat about 5 years according to the last inspection sticker, but it ran good and the genny ran. But we have put new filters, hoses, changed fluids. Put in a new microwave/convection oven, new w/d. I've driven it 6000 miles so far with no issues, it says about 120k miles on it.
However, its not a bus but so far I'm finding it to be pretty sturdy. Will know more in the spring, planning on a trip west about 2500 miles each way, will see if the old gal does good, she is also hauling a toad.
We redid the roof, took everything off, primered and put on liquid roof, all new skylights and maxx airs, new AC's. I love the old thing. Leather couches, hardwood in the kitchen/dining room. Stand alone ice maker, full bath with tub, ceramic tile in bath and ceramic commode, corian countertops. Has individual awnings over the windows and one big one they were all good. They have metal covers. I just got 2 new steer tires and plan to get 4 more on the back. We have spent some money but nothing like on a new one. I found this thing originally cost over $200k even back then. I've been told by mechanics there is less rust on this one then some a few years old but then it had been undercoated underneath. It has an 8.3 Cummins diesel but is only a single axle and a 4 speed Allison transmission, weighs in at 28000 pounds.
I've waxed it with 5 coats last year but needs it now and I think its going to be to cold for me to do it. The paint looks good from not to far away but its starting to show particularly on the front cap its age. I hate to spend money repainting it.
