I think titanium is the best for any repair where bone is involved. Like the bolts in my back, titanium will allow the bone to grow and attache to it just like a broken bone will heal. With titanium you can also get an MRI if needed and it does not show up when you go through an airport scanner.
After one of my motorcycle injuries, they used Stainless steel, which had to be removed in less than one year. Titanium is forever.
My friend, that makes the components, says that they are having good results with the plastic knees but given the choice, I would stay with Titanium.
