Hearing about everyone's motorcycle accidents made me realise how lucky I've been. For the last two years before DW and I and two young daughters emigrated to Washington State, I was a test engineer for Norton-Villiers. My work days the first year consisted of riding one of the Norton Commando prototypes 500 miles in about 9 hours, 5 or 6 days a week. I stepped off once after going through a hawthorn hedge at about 45 mph. There were no open road speed limits in the UK then, so a lot of the miles were covered at speeds above 80 mph.
Other than that incident with the hedge, no accidents in about 40,000 miles. When we arrived in Seattle, I took one look at the little old folks driving their big Buicks, etc., at 45 mph on the freeway, peering though the steering wheel, and decided that street riding in the US was not for me. I've only ridden on trails a few times since and have never owned a bike here.
Good luck in your recovery, Dennis. I have a feeling that I may be joining the artificial knee fraternity before long.
