Onan 5000 won't start

Thanks for the replies and for the link to the manual. I hope it's the oil pressure sensor. In any event, I will post back with the resolution when I get time to work on it. Right now garden and yard work are taking precedence.

My generator ran fine last October. When I went to start it in March, it would not run. I disconnected the Oil Pressure safety switch and it fired right up. I replaced the switch and it has run fine since then. May be your issue also.

Mark, mine just stopped running one day traced it down to no spark. After checking the sensors and other circuits I zeroed in on the ing coil. Each coil has ohm readings that will tell you if its good or not. The hardest part was to remove all the sht metal shrouding to get to the coil. Also there is a gap that has to be maintained between the coil pickup and magneto you can check that first before removing it.

I don't have a service manual------just whatever Winnebago sent along.

Yes I've removed the spark plug as well as putting a phillips screw driver in the spark end and checking to a ground.

Not sure about your particular model but in general Onan's won't start if you have low oil .. check oil level .. if that's OK then disconnect oil pressure sensor (might have to ground) and see if that fixes the problem - if it does then replace oil pressure sensor.

Have you removed spark plug to check for spark?

If there's a loss in oil pressure doesn't it shut down the control module that supplies 12V to the ignition coils?

First check oil level. If ok try disconnecting the sensor to fool the control module. I wouldn't run the genny in this mode, just enough to see if it coughs.

It's not fuel. Not only is the main tank full, I removed the air cleaner and sprayed some ether into it. No attempts to fire.

Then checked for spark and nothing.
