Onan 5500 Generator problem

Can't start generator from inside unit. I can go outside,push the throttle while I hit the starter and she fires right up.I have replaced the fuel filter and plugs when I bought her. Should I replace the fuel pump? Suggestions for a newbie.

    Are you priming the pump properly?...are you pushing the switch (usually to stop) and holding it there until red light comes on (about 8 seconds with gas), then pushing generator to other side to start?
