Onan 7500 Generator problem

I have a 2006 Fleetwood Bounder 39z While running the generator on the way to a campground the generator stopped putting out power to the motor home. The generator starts right up and runs but after a few minutes it drops rpms like something is pulling power. and I am not getting any power inside. When I connect to shore power everything works fine. I've checked all the breakers and fuses. I did notice now that my inverter is making a humming sound and the cooling fan keeps kicking on. Any Ideas as to what could be the possible problem.
  • Have you turned the on-generator breakers OFF and back ON?
  • Check power output at power block right front of generator to make sure power on both legs. Had similar problem with 10 Kw and turned out to be wire end at the block where transitions from generator to cable to ATS. Good luck, Don
  • Your 120 Transfer box is probably defective. FIND IT. then remove the cover and use a multimeter to check the voltages. Inside the cover will be the wiring schematic. The Transfer box usually has the end of the 50 amp shore power cable. Doug
  • Thanks for the reply's did all the suggested and it may be the 120 transfer box but I'm taking it into an electric shop today and have them make sure that's the only problem. I'm not real good at electrical.
  • To minimize their time/your $$$:

With shore power disconnected, generator off and inverter/charger off:

    Remove lid to ATS.

Tighten all connections and check for any burned wires.

Start the generator. Verify that the two on-generator breakers have been turned OFF and back ON.

Pull out a voltmeter and check for power on the IN and OUT side of the ATS. That will tell you if the problem is before the ATS or in the ATS itself.

    10 minute job.
