Onan 5500Marquis Gold Generator

I have a few questions. (#1) I was told that when sleeping over night in the summer that you should not run the generator all night to keep RV cool because of the exhaust flums. But the generator exhaust comes out right behind the driver tire in front. Does anyone run their generator all night to keep cool or is this not a good idea?
(#2) When we have a hard rain there is a little puddle of water on passenger side on dash closer to the seat and away from the front glass. But when I check the cabinet abouve the dasy it is completly dry inside and out. Seems too far away from the frong glass to be coming in there. Really has me stumped. (2004 Thor Four Winds Infinity Class A) (#3) The two front tires look to be in great shape but both are same size but different brand. Would this make a difference? The is our first RV and only had it about three weeks. Picked it up in Flordia and drove it back home to Mayfield, Ky. a little over a thousand miles. Had a good trip but cruse went out and had to get that fixed when got home Anyway, thanks in advance for any help. Answer all or any of the questions you can.

I have spent several nights during the years running the generator all night. I purchased an additional portable CO2 unit and I usually put in the bedroom just for extra protection. Never had a problem in my 2000 Class A.

Your leak might be around clearance lights, roof line where it joins the front cap, could be anywhere. Water can show up many feet from where it comes in.

But would it not be a little wet under and inside the cabnet abouve the dash where the (small) puddle is? It is as dry as it could be all over abouve the puddle. Guess will just seal all the running lights abouve the dash and around the front windshield.

  • Tracking, no the windshild is not slooped to the rear. But I am still guessing that is where it has to be coming in even though the little puddel of water is away from the sindshild and no water track like it ran toward the front of the dash. I will check the dates on the tires.

Robert78121, yes coming back from Florida we stopped twice coming home (was in no hurry) and had the generator running both nights with no problems. But did not think of having the overhead fan going. I think it is called fantastick or something like that with remote. Seems like a good fan.
  • When I have boon docked overnight for a quick stop to get rested I have always run the generator to run the roof top air. I like the white noise it provides and sleep much better in cooler temperatures. I do vent the roof vents, but have never had a problem. Just make sure your CO2 detector is in good working condition.

Have no idea about your leak and hate to speculate on your tires.
  • If you have concerns on the genterator exhaust, you might do a forum search on "genturi". We've never left ours running all night just because we haven't needed it. If possible, I'd try to watch which way the wind, if any, is blowing so that it blows the exhaust away from the MH.

On your leak, is the top of the windshield above of the leak - is the front of the MH slopped back so that it could be leaking at the top and dripping onto the dash instead of running down the windshield? I need to get the tops of our winshield resealed.

On the front tires if they handle fine I wouldn't worry about them. Do check the dates because one of them is most likely older and may need replacement due to age. If so, then it's a question on whether you change one or both of them.
