Onan Marquis 5000 quits after a while?

I have a BGM series Onan Marquis 5000 which fires right up. After about 20 minutes it just randomly dies. Then it won't start for 10 minutes or so then will fire up again. Sounds weird, but it seems to do this when it is the generator by itself. With the motorhome's engine running it doesn't seem to do it. Any ideas? It is 1/2 tank full.

    Rig is a 1995. Even when the engine's running the generator seems to run too? I turn off the engine, and 10 minutes later the generator dies. This only started like 2 weeks ago.

    How old is the rig it could be that it is developing cracks in the rubber fuel line to the generator from the main gas tank. If so you will have to drop the tank to repair. A way to find out Take a gallon of gas in a separate gas can run a hose from the gas can to the generator fuel pump bypassing the rigs gas tank if it runs for more then the 20 min. you have found your problem.
