Onan Micro Quiet 4000

Need some help. Just finished a 2 week trip from DFW to Colorado. The gen worked great going up. Once we got there, the generator leaked all the oil out. Checked the drain plug, dry as a bone. Because it's in a tight compartment(Class B), I can't see where it was leaking. Only has 300 hrs. but it is 10 yrs old. Any ideas?? Is there any chance the high altitude created pressure and release the oil??

Even better, the Tech Issues Forum. If you agree, click "Notify Moderator" and request the move.

Also!!! Please include Model and Spec. Something like "4KY Spec J" but understand the Spec is important since it tells what features and mods the genset has. If you look up the manual, it'll say which Spec's it covers, and in the manual you'll see frequent references to Spec.
  • Is the oil mostly in the left side of the generator casing?

There's a breather hose from the engine valve cover into the air cleaner compartment. If the breather valve gets stuck, oil can be vented into the air cleaner compartment.
  • My Roadtrek has a good point. Our RV is a PW Pursuit B+, not a true Class B. No trouble so far with the Onan 4000.
  • If your RV is a BT Cruiser it's a Class C. Class B's do not use Onan 4000's.

  • No chance that altitude made the oil leak out. We have a generator like yours and make trips from our home near Houston up into high elevations in CO and NM. Something must have broken or ruptured. Good luck fixing the problem.
