Onan quiet diesel
When you hold the start button what is clicking sound? the sound on my 7.5 kw used to be quite loud but lately you can hardley hear it and it seams to take longer befor starting, whats up with that?

- It has an electric fuel pump and if the system is good, pressure will stay built up and you don't have to pump fuel to the injectors to start it. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. The clicking is the pump, glow plugs are silent.
- Mine is a onan quiet diesel 8000 and has made the clicking sound since new, I will have to try holding the off button first before starting
- I have the Onan 7500 Quiet Diesel and I can not hear any clicking at all. Hold the button down for a few seconds and it fires right up. But I would suspect it is the electric fuel pump.

Yes. The start side of switch primes the fuel system also. But only for a short time.

You may have to use the STOP button to prime and get fuel in to filter. I fill the filter with fuel when installing it. This gets prime up sooner.
dumb question.. but the stop button primes the fuel pump ?- Hold your switch in the off position till the light goes solid. That will prime the Onan. Then go to start.
- It will start but you might as well fill it. Just makes it easier on the fuel pump. Once it starts run it for a half hr with some load on it.

Yes, at lower ambient temperatures it will be preheating, but that is not the noise.
