Ooops dammit nuts! First not quite a dent

Pulling out of the gas station today, I was trying to get around someone who was blocking most of the exit driveway and failed to realize how close I was to the bollard protecting the fuel pump. Mostly, I transferred paint from the bollard to the RV, but I did a little damage (small cracks, maybe a need to re-attach one corner) to the "fender" extension around the rear wheel well. That looks like something I can buy and replace easily enough.

But dang it. I felt stupid.
  • Welcome to the club.... :S good news is you only do it once... Bad news is the wife will never let you forget
  • I drove through a gas station and hit a dip in the pavement that crushed the rear corner of mine. It had to be repaired of course. The length of the mh sometimes makes those sharp dips a hazard to the body work and the wallet.

I watched a family I've become acquainted with at a campground, positioning their Class A "just so" and in the process snagged a storage bay door on a signpost. Hubby took it off, and using the slots in a picnic table top as a jig, did about a 90% "almost fix" on it and reinstalled. Later, I asked his wife, "Do you ever drive the RV?" to which she answered "I haven't, but now that my husband's put the first ding in it, I just might."

On the forums where people talk about tools and woodworking, there's a saying when someone posts about some fabulous deal s/he hauled home that day: "No pictures, didn't happen." I just wish that were true for this kind of incident, because then I'd make sure not to take a picture, and then it wouldn't have happened.

I told my wife; she's feeling a little better since she heard about your coworker's mistake.
  • Someday I'm going to carefully examine one of those bollards to see how many different colors of paint are on them. I'm sure each one has a story to tell.
  • Well if you have to make a mistake, at least it was minor. A co-worker of mine had motor homes for over twenty years. He finally got a brand new really nice Class A, in the first month of ownership he pulled out of his own driveway and pulled off the entire back cap on his own block wall :o

My own mistakes over the years are too much to type, welcome to the club :B
