I need to buy propane for heat and cooking anyway so no biggy for me. But if you don't need to it's a much better arrangement.
X2 on needing it for cooking and heat.
The diesel gen is awesome, but when it starts cold it is definitely the noisiest on the block :) My 8000K QD is variable speed so it doesn't get the real advantage of always being low RPM, but in reality it is pretty quiet once its warmed up.
I had my LP generator for 13 years and it was awesome as well. The main advantage to me was I didn't have to do anything special to winterize it. It never gummed up, nor did I need to add treatment for the fuel.
Both the diesel and the LP had(have) a hard time starting in the low temps. Sometimes they never do start and I have to wait until the outside temperature warms up.
