Our Mighty Hauler Experience

We wanted a HydraLift to carry our golf cart. But after investigating it we discovered that our cart weighs too much.

So our very reliable repair shop (handles many of the NASCAR rigs) did some research and suggested a Mighty Hauler. We looked at it online, talked to the manufacturer extensively, and ultimately ordered a unit.

I was a little distrustful because the manufacturer has a no returns policy. We questioned them extensively about tying the golf cart down and were assured there were lots of places -- no worries. Even though the photos online didn't show many tie down areas.

The unit arrived and our repair shop spent countless hours installing it. If you have a Prevost, no worries. But our Country Coach presented challenges. It was a very costly installation.

We ordered the ramps along with the unit. If you purchase a Mighty Hauler, DO NOT BUY THEIR RAMPS! They are very narrow and heavy. They are not long enough. The brackets supplied to mount them are unusable unless you want to crawl under the unit.

We have a Club Car Precedent with a back seat and footrest. Ramps are so steep that the cart can't be loaded.

We subsequently purchased longer aluminum ramps. Wish we had saved the $250 or so that Mighty Hauler charged for their ramps.

The paint finish on the entire unit is a joke. It's so thin and flakes off easily. The repair shop had to repaint a lot just getting it installed.

Unit has been installed on our moho for about 6 weeks now and has many rusted areas.

We will eventually have the entire unit sprayed with whatever is used for bedliners.

Our new 10' ramps arrived yesterday, but we haven't had time to see if they are long enough to load the cart.

If not, we will have to have the back of the cart reworked.

If they are, next step is to figure out how to tie down the cart. That will be an experience because on the side next to the moho there are only two U-shaped handles to tie to and they don't seem to be in the right place.

Will post later and let you all know the outcome.

  • DH finally had a day off work and we were able to successfully load the golf cart with a set of 10' ramps that we purchased off the internet for about $500. Wish we hadn't spent the $250 on the unusable Mighty Hauler ramps!

    Here's a pic:

Next step: learn how to tie it down successfully.

I don't know if you and I have talked (PMd or otherwise) on this subject before or not. It's too bad you could not have used the Hydralift. I realize you said they said your cart was/is too heavy. Our Honda Goldwing is around 900 lbs and the lift zooms it right up to the travel position without issue. But, it may be a bit lighter than your G/C. I did the install of the Hydralift myself and, while it was a chore, it was fun too. But, that's a matter of how one looks at stuff like this.

I've been contacted several times regarding the install of my lift and what to look out for. Angle of approach, coach height when loading and off loading, securing or, "tie down" point location(s) and more all must be taken into consideration prior to turning the first wrench, cutting the first cut, or any other starting point.

I don't know who did your install and while you may know them and their work, it is possible they overlooked some of the "stumbling blocks" that you have run into. I don't know the product "Mighty Hauler" and it's traits and characteristics.

Knowing the Hydralift, it's mounting procedures and attachment points, and, knowing I'd be the one who'd do the lift install, it was one of one of the primary factors in choosing a coach. I had to have good rear frame access. It is not an easy task, to say the least. I do hope you get your issues straightened out. It's nice to have your "toys" or, run-a-round vehicles with you when you arrive at your destination(s).

I also set up our 2011 Honda CR-V to be towed behind the Hydralift. That was a cake walk compared to the setting up of the lift. I did the wiring etc and it wall works great. Again, hope it all works out for you.

  • We purchased the 1200G.

The shop had to cut holes into our coach to get it to fit. Wasn't happy with that!

Now we have this ugly platform permanently mounted to the coach that I'm not convinced will actually work. Will let you all know when we finally are able to load the cart and secure it.

Then the next step will be to get the CR-V outfitted to tow behind it all.

Yes, it does. It doesn't slide into the receiver at all. It has separate mounts.

Bet we were typing at the same time- I realized my mistake right after I posted- see edit above...

Which model did you folks buy?
  • Yes, it does. It doesn't slide into the receiver at all. It has separate mounts.
  • I'm having a tough time visualizing the hours-of-installation thing...

The "Mighty Hauler" I'm familiar with slides right in to the receiver of the rig- is this some other product that is supposed to somehow permanently mount to the motorhome?

    On edit

OOPS! Brain lapse there...I'll bet you're talking about one of the bigger, two-bar models for bigger loads, which must come with new receivers supplied by mfr. Sounds like the shop had a heck of a time getting those parts to fit.

    What a nightmare!
