Our new longer Class C issues?? Yosemite

Moved up from 22' Minnie to 28' Forest River. Concerned about manuvering in places like Yosemite CG's that we frequent. Longer 202" wheelbase makes for much wider turns. Turning angle is less and I wonder if I am now going to have issues backing into campsites. Especially when someone part directly across from my spot right up to the road. My selection is going to be much less than with the 22'.
Also, we have encountered some tight corners in Lower Pines and I don't want to scrap the side against the brush and especially the trees.
The loops in Upper Pines have some good pot holes and I wonder if my levelers are going to scrap or get mer stuck. I only have 6 1/2 " of clearance. I am more concerned about the fronts. Looks like there is possibly a 1" clearance to raise them, but not sure.
So if I encounter a good pot hole, do I take out my lego leveling blocks and fill in a path? Again, I may have to change the way we camp.

  • I called the leveler manufacturernand they said I can try to move the leveler up if there is room or there are shorter ones available. I would have to use talller foot pads.
  • I have an E-450 with a lot of space. Just need to have the right jacks for your unit.
  • Bigfoot levelers says 6-7" is recommended height, I think it's too low. Could be that the throw would be too short. I know Class A's have a long throw, but also have the room for it. Not much space in a Ford E-450.
  • Are you worried your jacks being so low? I would be also. Why are they so low? Mine are not that low.
  • The overhang on the new 28' is the same as the 22' Minnie, 7 feet. The wheelbase is 5 feet longer.
  • I don't know about those places but we have a 30 ft. Class C and it backs into sites easier that the 25 ft. 5th wheel we had. really have to watch the long overhang.
  • Ours is only 24 ft and I like Upper Pines a lot. Hasn't been a problem with backing in at all. Some of the spots are short, so check the map regarding length before reserving and you should be OK.

I have a 32' long Class C with a 220" wheelbase and have had no undue problems.

You just have to learn the new driving characteristics. It won't take long.
