Over Drive
I have always wondered if I put an overdrive unit on my RV will do any good. If it gives you a 10% decrease in RMPs does it give you 10% better gas mileage? Or just 2 or 3% better MPGs. Would it be worth having it done?

- Could help, could actually hurt. the higher final OD gear, Could make the engine work harder / LUG, to stay in OD. IF it does, It will not only hurt your MPG, but could damage your engine
- what rpm is the engine turning at 60 mph?
- You may get a little better mileage...not worth the cost of the upgrade, I am sure..MPG depends on a lot more than just gearing....wind resistance of an RV is a big factor
- You'll never save enough $$$ to pay for the OD unit
- I have a 1989 Southwind with a Chevy 454 and Turbo 400 trans.
