Pace arrow power steering

Have a 1994 Pacearrow motorhome with the 454.The power steering and power brakes have gone haywire and stopped working. I had the power steering pump and the Hydro booster replaced along with one hyd.line but still have the same problems. The mechanic did bleed the system several times but It didn't help. When I crank up the RV the power steering will work but as I turn the steering wheel left or right it sounds like the system has no fluid and makes a terrible noise and then the power steering and power brakes go away. the system has plenty of fluid.
Help please.
  • To bleed the system you turn the steering "all" the way to the right and then all the way to the left.

The breaks work off the power steering pump so you may have a slipping belt.
  • OP:
Do you have the make and model of the pump that was installed?
Does your rig have drum brakes or disc brakes in the rear?
Is your rig equipped with a sepentine belt and two v-belts?
  • Had same problem with my southwind when first bought. Could not keep belt tight. The steering pump had extra pulleys that I could run 2 belts only off the crank pulley. Solved my problem. Hope yours could be that simple. Keith
  • Ok that is a Chevy P series chassis. So your mechanic needs to reference service to that.
  • Hopefully the mechanic knows how to bleed the system correctly. There is somewhat of a special procedure. No real bleeding but there is a procedure to follow.
Did they get the correct pump? Rotation must be correct for the pump to operate properly.
