Painting Eternabond Tape?

I have a caulked joint between the top of the front cab and the fiberglass MH roof that has cracked and needs to be replaced. I want to use 2" wide Eternabond tape to replace (cover) the cleaned-up caulking. The question about painting is because I would like to lap the white tape over the side on the MH a bit, but it will then be seen from the ground over the dark maroon painted fiberglass side wall.

I also could cover the Eternabond with 2" wide black "gaffers" tape that would not be obvious from the ground. All the other joints and roof penetrations have a heavy Dicor like coating that is in very good condition.

Any thoughts?

I have some minor bunching at the radius, but it actually turned out quite well. The 2" tape worked well for me. When painted, I think that they will not be visible.
  • Ron, I think you are doing the same thing I did last fall. I don't care for the results I got, and I plan to re-do mine shortly. I used the 4" tape and ran into a problem with the geometry involved in covering an outside radius. The tape would not lay flat and wanted to bunch up along its edges. Did you encounter this?
  • Thanks for the responses.

I used the white 2" today... wow, things can go really wrong if you're not careful, that is really sticky stuff. I didn't have to worry about falling off the roof, I'd have still been stuck up there.

It went very well, and I am comfortable about how it sealed the cap/roof joint. I ran it over the sides to each roof/wall joint. I have an ~8" gap at the center of the joint that I will apply another layer of tape, and then paint the tape exposed at each side.
  • I painted mine, no problem. Don't recall if I used the special spray paint for plastics. At any rate, that was years ago, still painted!!!
  • You can get Eternabond tape in black that might not be very visible or if you have paint, there is also a paintable version available. I believe it is called "woven coated" or something like that. Good luck.
