I should have been a bit more clear with my post. Will not extending it fully damage the rail system?. Seems to me that if it's not fully extended, there is less overhanging the side and there would be less stress on the slideout. We can deal with it not being sealed by sealing it in other ways.

Disclaimer: I'm no expert on this and you may be right. However, what I do know is when the slide is either fully in or fully out the lip of the slide is firmly pushed up against the side of the motorhome all the way around. When it's partially open that pressure is not there. So moving about in the motorhome in and out of the slide may cause movement of the slide. Will that cause any damage? I have no idea. It does seem like it may, but I wouldn't know for sure.
