Patio-side slide-out & Patio awning issues

We are casually looking around for our eventual trade-up to a class A rig and the floor plans we like so far have opposing slides which opens up the living area nicely.
One negative aspect we see of the patio-side slide-out is the loss of available shade area under the patio awning due to the patio awning being mounted to the motorhome body.
Not only is there a loss of shade due to the space used up by the slide-out that but also it appears the patio awning couldn't be tilted down to increase the shade area due to the slide-out being in the way, thus decreasing the amount of shade area further.
Is this what people are experiencing who have patio-side slide-outs with patio awnings mounted to the motorhome body?
I have seen a few rigs where the patio awning is mounted to the slide-out. This of course can only be done if the slide-out is of sufficient length.
Mounting the patio awning to the slide-out appears to solve both issues causing decreased shade but I wonder if it would cause any issues with the slide-out over time......extra weight and stress of the patio awning moving in the wind, etc.
  • You are correct, you loose a lot of the standard type awning when they are over a slide.

You might be over thinking the impact the awning would have on the slide. We've had a 16' awning on the slide our 5th wheel serving as a second awning, and a 20' slide on the full wall slide we have now. It makes it nice, to have full tilt and full width and depth of the awning when attached to the slide.

A step up puts you into a roof mount Gerrard or Carefree that extends beyond the slide, then tilts down.
