- nomad_289Explorer"Empty" OCCC = full gas & propane: 3760F, 7380R = 11,140 lbs.
Loaded: 55 gal fresh, 11 gal drinking, empty tanks, driver, dog + modeled pnichols excellent/comprehensive boon-docking supplies list =
4140F, 8760R = 12,900 lbs.
Subtracting water weight and passengers, was surprised to find the "stuff" only weighed ~1000 lbs.
Running 65 psi F, 75 psi rear. 5+ psi over to account for water redistribution. - pnicholsExplorer III do not have slides on mine. When I had mine weighed by the CHP I had some liquids in the tanks but I don't recall any of them being full:
55 gallon gas tank
44 gallon fresh water tank (including hot water tank)
29 gallon grey water tank
39 gallon black water tank
18 gallon (~14 gallons when filled to full -> 80%)
I wonder where our Class C weight difference is coming from - especially considering their size differences?
My roof is one piece of fiberglass. My rig carries a full spare. Maybe I have too much stuff on board - 120V volt air compressor, many leveling wood blocks, additional Honda portable generator (plus the built-in Onan), extra Honda generator gas tank, many tools, fishing tackle boxes/poles, portable BBQ, six chairs including two recliners, double Group 29 coach batteries, etc.. I probably had some/all of these items along when the CHP weighed it. skipnchar wrote:
Weighing is probably the only way to tell OTHER than asking the dealer for their specs from manufacturer.
Motorhomes, like other RVs have a label that lists the actual weight of the unit as it left the factory. This of course does not include any equipment not factory installed so weighing is the most accurate.- RetSgt7114Explorer

Wow, that's light weight for a 30 footer. My 24 footer weights in at 11,800 lbs.. A lot of Class C owners would die for the amount of extra weight carrying capacity that you have ... assuming it's on the E450 chassis. If so, your year of E450 has a total weight carrying capacity of 14,050 lbs..
Enjoy.
Do you have slides? I have no slides on mine. - RetSgt7114Explorer

Weigh the RV and subtract from the GVWR OR the payload is often posted in the door posts of newer trucks. Problem with that number is that it won't include the house itself. Weighing is probably the only way to tell OTHER than asking the dealer for their specs from manufacturer.

I just found that the unloaded vehicle weight is 10900 lbs, which includes a full tank of gas and coolants etc., so it appears that I have a carrying capacity of a bit over 3100 lbs. With 7 of us travelling, we still have a decent amount of carrying capacity for all. Thanks for all the input.
Ron - Generally speaking, the larger the rig the less payload it will have- if we are speaking of the same E450 chassis. The 24'-25' models with no slides have great payload capacity, and I've seen 31' models with slides that have only about 1200 pounds which makes the rig practically useless unless you either leave everything at home or just run overloaded. The newer E450 models have higher GVWR, but the fine print on that is nearly all of the extra capacity is on the front axle where it is of little use. My 29' with no slides has about 2000 listed on the sticker, but in real world useage it's very easy to overload the rear axle.
- pianotunaNomad IIIHi,
Mine weighs in at 14,000 lbs fully loaded with full fresh water tank, full gas tank, full propane tank, a rack on the back with about 50 lbs load on it, seven group 29 12 volt Marine batteries and two not small folks sitting in the cab. GVW is 14,500.
