Coming home from a great weekend in Centre, Ala. and wanted to utilize my membership with Good Sam. I stopped in Temple, Ga. to fill up with fuel and propane. As I pulled in to the Pilot I didn't notice a propane tank but pulled to the fuel tank anyway. Told the counter help I was filling up and showed my Good Sam Card. She allowed me to complete my fill up and when I went to pay there was no discount. I asked about it and was looked at like I had two heads. I then told her I needed propane and was told I would have to go the Flying J down the street for that. Since I was off the interstate I pulled to the other Good Sam supported station and got to the propane tank, called inside for service and after a twenty minute wait the assistant came out to inform me they had been out of fuel for a couple of days. Not a great way to get me to renew next year. I am sure there are good stories out there also it just seems every time I stop in there is a sign on my forehead that says "I'm stupid".

I like flying j for the rv pull thru pumps but had a bad experience at flying j at exit 104 on i95 in va today the outside lane does not allow enough radius for a 32 footer pulling a jeep

I have used both lanes at that flying j if you are talking about the RV lanes. I can getin and out with no issue at 42 feet towing a jeep.

OP Stuff happens. I gather that you have the Swipe and Save card and as such it's somewhat new this year I believe. Perhaps review the card use procedures and make sure you have the discount before pumping.While I have the Swipe and Save card it's doubtful that I will use it. Simply stated I get 5% cash back with my CC on fuel and I get this at virtually all fuel stations including FJ.

I have had the rv advantage card now $.03/gal for many years now and use both it and my CC with a 3% or sometimes 5% cashback whenver possible today paid $$3.20/ gal and will get $.09/gal cash back. Always swipe them first before pumping to make sure I get the discounts when your buying 50 or 60 gals.at a fill every penny counts.

We use Pilot/Flying J for the convenience (right off the interstate, easy pull thru (37' A towing a Wrangler), etc.)... At the pump you swipe your credit card, then swipe your GS Swipe & Save card, get 3 cents off a gallon.... which still does not make them the cheapest around....... However, the ability to get in & out easily, spend the night if needed, etc. makes it worthwhile to us.......

There was a huge propane shortage this winter. In our area dealers actually
ran out of propane for their home heating customers. Going price got up to $4 gallon.

I totally agree with what Tinkerer said we have just traveled from AZ to VA to WI and never was Flying J's price within 8 cents of the other stations, and that is with the discount of 3 cents. I use Gas buddy all the time.

P/FJ/GS credit card is good at any lane for the $.07 per gallon gas discount.
The discount varies from 4 to 9 cents depending upon the type of GS membership and gas or diesel.

In the meantime I get 5% cash back at all stations.

I too have the RV Plus card. It is certainly convenient. Swipe at the pump, and then pump away. The only problem I've had is that I don't always get the discount. Sometimes I do and it is great, other times I don't and I'm not happy!!

Very old news. This has been ongoing for well over a year. P/FJ have already made a settlement with some of the cheated companies.

I for one prefer stopped at their locations. The P/FJ/GS credit card is good at any lane for the $.07 per gallon gas discount. I prefer their stations because they generally have room for RVs. Flying Js have dedicated RV pump islands too.

I know I can get in and out and it is right off the interstate. I will say that one time a station left a cap off the tank or it was on crooked and we had a heavy rain. It somehow got into the tank. There were trucks broken down with water in fuel all up and down I 81 for about 10 miles. It even made the paper. Thankfully I was in my pickup and fuel that closer to home. The CB was burning as the drivers figured out they all had just fueled at the same place. The guys who took more fuel were the closest to the station. They called the station who got all the trucks back and they drained their tanks. It was a complex job as they needed to pump out the tanks in the ground and also fill the trucks with fresh fuel.

not all the truck diesel lanes accept the RV Plus Charge Card at the pump.

We use the RV Plus Card at Flying J and Pilot all over the country in the truck lanes. Never been in one that doesn't accept the card and never noticed a sign indicating its use. Not saying it's not true, but never experienced it. It is quick, easy, cash price discounted and you don't even have to go inside unless you want a receipt, and that you can get at the kiosk, you don't have to wait in line. Works great for us!

I now have the app "gas buddy" on my smart phone. I very seldom buy fuel at Flying J's. Loves. or Pilot. On my last trip their diesel fuel was priced 10- to 30 cents higher than other stations. Gas buddy will give you directions and show a picture of the station.;)

How did you determine there was no discount? At many Pilot/J stations when you Show or Scan your Discount card, the price on the pump is discounted. So, you then pump say 100.00 worth of fuel, expecting a discont, but the discount was applied AS YOU PUMPED, so it's 100 when you pay.

Had you not shown the card that same AMOUNT of fuel, would have cost more.

The joy of modern computer pumps... Same, I might add, is true at Wal*mart/Murphy's.

Just now if you go into the Wal*mart and hand them cash (or your credit/debit card) and an "Empty" wal*mart gift card and say "Fill 'er up" as I did last Friday.. Then you go out to the pump and insert and remove the gift card... And watch the price windows on the pump... You will see the ten's digit decrement one dime per gallon when the card is read approved. So 3.41 becomes 3.31 just like magic.

Instead of the swipe and save, as a Good Sam member you can get the RV Plus card.
These are accepted at the pumps just like a credit card. I use them all the time and have never had a problem.
