Plugged in or not..

Our motorhome is parked in our driveway in the summer when not in use. Normally I leave the power plugged in all the time to keep the batteries charged and for lighting etc… Does it hurt anything to leave it plugged in all the time? Do you leave yours plugged in all the time or unplugged? Just curious… Thanks
  • Our 96 Southwind is plugged 24/7 when it's parked in the yard.
I just check the batteries occasionally, never had a problem.
  • It really depends on your converter/charger. If it will maintain at a good float voltage (13.2 approx) then you are good to go. Some controllers aren't so good at that and can over charge the batteries.
  • You could say...it depends...if you have a good inverter with temp compensation on the charger, you should not have any problems. Just check your battery water periodically.

If you have a converter, it's more problematic since most do not have temp compensation and many are not even good 3 stage chargers.

When I still had the TT I left it plugged in but battery maintenance was much higher than my now MH which is also plugged in all the time and seldom needs water and than only a small amount.
  • TT owner here... but yes, we keep ours plugged in all the time at home. Also keep the refrigerator turned on electric all the time too. We sleep in the camper almost every night, especially in the summer, even though it's just in the drive way. So it makes sense to leave it plugged in. Still, I do not unplug in the winter either unless we're on the road. Cold drinks available all the time .... PRICELESS!
