Pocket doors are a GREAT idea, space saving and all that. But man, are they a major pain in the butt to repair when problems arise. You have my sympathy, OP. And I wish I could give you the secret handshake to easy pocket door maintenance, but I don't know of one.
X2 on that! The pocket door in mine has been giving me headaches for awhile now. Not only the back part of the track (in the wall) becoming unfastened, but also trying to keep the track trolly's attached to the fastener's in the top of the door! :M
The way that Newmar has mine installed, even when releasing the latches on the track trolly's, I can't even get the door out unless I remove a piece of trim (door stop). Even then, I'm unsure of how easily the door will come out? I'm almost ready to take a Sawzall to it and toss it in the nearest campfire!
I was thinking of removing the door, then trimming in the opening and installing a wooden folding (accordion) door.
I've also entertained the idea of cutting an access panel as well, but would like to avoid that for now. Possibly cutting a hole, then cover it with a framed picture instead of an access door. If I needed further access, just removed the picture and I'm in. (The wall that our pocket door slides into is our main bedroom wall.)
One thing about cutting an access panel...be sure that if you fasten it with screws, the screws are not long enough to interfere with the door when the door is slid back into the pocket.
