Pontchartrain Landing, NOLA

Anybody ever stayed there? Thinking of a June, 2015 trip to NOLA. Trying to plan now. What's the good, bad and ugly of the campground? I know it will be hot there in June, but that's not a big problem.

Pontchartrain Landing

Thanks!!!
  • I will put in my two cents having stayed at Pontchartrain Landing several times not by preference but strictly convenience. It is in a rundown industrial area on an industrial canal off of the lake but it is a safe area as far as I know. The road leading in is paved but extremely rough and as another poster said watch your directions carefully, both going in and out, or you will find yourself in a bind. The interior of the campground is ok, a little dusty at times, the exterior back-in sites are reasonably spaced and they will guide you to your spot. No traffic noise to speak of.

Maybe it is just me, but every time we have been there the quiet of the area, especially at night, is disturbed by some type of very loud noise emanating from a factory across the canal on a periodic basis. I am guessing some type of huge air compressor but it is loud and this past Easter kept all four of us from a good nights sleep. Bring ear plugs.

Next time we will brave crossing going thru the city and cross the bridge to try out Bayou Segnette SP.
  • Love it. We have been there three times and everyone is nice and the shuttle is good. Wish they had a later shuttle than 8pm coming back but it's only a $20 taxi ride from the French quarter. Planning on going back next month
  • We stayed there for Halloween weekend. Nice campground. We stayed in one of the pull throughs not on the water. Everyone was helpful. We used the shuttle service. Very, very, very dusty!
  • Loved the park. Far enough away from the "City" yet close enough to visit. Take the shuttle into town. It runs several times a day. Be sure to see the Mardi Gras museum and take the Grey Line Tour. Click on the link below for pictures. Scroll down the page for pics of Ponchartrain Landing....Dennis

  • We loved it. Shoot for a pull in that looks over the water we saw a dolphin or two.
  • we stayed there once.
Good: waterfront sites (more expensive) are nice. Shuttle to French Quarter $$. Nice clubhouse with bar. Nice pool. Nice managers with efficient check in.
Not so good: rough road going to entrance. Most sites tight. Road dusty. Weeds not mowed when we were there. Be careful and follow directions exactly. If not, you will go through some narrow streets with no place to turn around.
We prefer state parks and drive into NO. Be sure to see the WWII museum.
  • Just left there about a week ago. I reviewed it on both yelp and tripadvisor. We loved the proximity to the French Quarter.
