Will a car bulb #1141 work in the porch light?

The porch light may be any number of lamps, if it's a bayonet base (Like the 1156 or 1141) then a 1141 should work.. I would avoid the 1156 (Too hot) I think there is one more (91?) that is even cooler (And dimmer)

1141 and 1156 are "Turn Signal/Stop/Backup/Dome" lamps The other one is a tail light, license plate or marker lamp.
  • I used silvania1141 brighter with less voltage. Original was 31v new is 24v but bright.
  • Often the bulb number is stamped on the fixture somewhere.

If you decide to use an LED replacement, the Starlight Revolution 200 is designed for porch lights and tilts up and down some so you can cast the light where you want. Note that it comes standard in the motion sensing porch light they sell.

    See the bulb HERE

It costs about $28 but if you buy the motion sensing porch light you get it and that in effect reduces the light cost a lot.

  • I switched from the automotive bulb to a LED replacement bulb that operates much cooler, and uses only a fraction of the power. Unfortunately, it isn't quite a bright but it isn't all that bad.

I've noticed quite a few fixtures like my porch light (actually a panic light) to have burnt or scorched lenses from overheating. My light has never overheated and the lens is clear.
  • We bought an LED flat panel for ours but haven't got around to putting it in yet. :S

    Thanks for the reminder!.
  • I would go with an exact replacement of what came in the porch light. I stuck an automotive bulb in mine, and later got to buy a new lens as the old one melted from the heat. It's cheaper to buy the correct bulb. :)

  • I would think an L.E.D. bulb would the best way to go when you will have the light on for multiple hours unattended.
  • Those hot incans will melt some fixtures. Never leave it on when gone.
  • My Class C porch light accepts #1141 bulb replacements.
