Possible Engine Upgrades

Being that I have ruled out a different motorhome, I am spending more time and money getting ours the way it should be, although some common sense will be applied (I think). I have not had ours out on the open highway much at all since I purchased it over two years ago, but I notice at 60 mph it didn't have a lot left as far as power, even with the big block Chevy, so I was thinking of headers, better intake and carburetor, and possibly a better set of heads. I really do not want to install a better pulling cam unless it is what I need to do to pull better. Do you think the gains would be in the 75 hp range?

Upgrades won't be of much value until you have done some basic engine diagnostics to see why there is a lack of power. A compression check is in order, and check if the exhaust system has a blockage. Only consider the upgrades you suggested after you are certain the engine is healthy.
I would say 230hp and 385 ftpd of torque is not a basic diagnostic problem. Thats a lot of weight to move with that kind of power. Exhaust has no blockage

  • You might want to say what year motor you have. The newer units can be improved with electronic tuners.
