Geeze, you really can't read can you? Where does it say I made a phone call? I said CONTACT Ford or GM. They will require your VIN and other info.
If you go to a GM truck dealership, as I did, that does factory warranty work, they will be glad to give you information in writing about what is covered and what is not covered when reprogramming your ECM. I assume that Ford does the same, but that is why you need to contact them. The same goes if you want to change your headers, etc on a new automobile or truck. If it is a large dealership, they may even have the equipment there to reprogram your ECM. If you have ever taken a newer vehicle in for factory service, you will find out that even they may reprogram their own ECM to update it with the latest software.
I have handled my own affairs and I find it boring to try to educate you on how to do the same. If a person is too lazy to contact their own Ford or GM dealership about their engine, then they should stick with what they have.
