As a longtime hotrodder with direct experience with the OP's question, your answer of "if they wanted it to run better, "They" would have made it so" is just an expression of your comfort zone. You are welcome to it, enjoy, no hard feelings for sure. But you did not address the OP's question.

FYI, I own a built by me 68 Camaro... Aftermarket everything... 550 horsepower, 12 second quarter mile's, AND 21 mpg.
Note the original ran the quarter in 16 seconds, and got 12 mpg....

And plenty of hotrodders who've blown a engine or two, or trashed a tranny or rear end. Most people hotrodding aren't under a manufactures warranty and if they are, they don't care as they planned to tear the engine apart to begin with. Taking a stock engine and doing something it wasn't programmed to do from the manufacture because you need to be the first to the top of the hill by adding tuners or chips, and still expect the manufacture to stand behind it after thenresulting damage is ludicrous.

Would you like to buy the MH off a dealers lot where the previous owner added a chip or tuner and ditched the MH due to the damage they did to it? That is exactly why a lot of people buy new. If you have to add a chip or tuner you've probably made the wrong choice and failed to do your research ahead of time, or you don't care.
