Power Gear bedroom slide

We have a 2001 Imperial and the power gear bedroom slide has started sticking when we retract it. It's the same spot, about 6" from the full position. If push/lean on it, it will go in. I've cleaned the gears and sprayed the dry lube on the track but that is not the cause. Any advice?

  • It seams that the slide has to be adjusted, height or side to side. It has nothing to do with the motor or gearbox, because by the time the slide reaches the sticking point, the motor and gearbox made already many revolutions without any problems. If you observe the slide from the outside when closing it, it should touch the wall of the motorhome with all four corners very evenly. If one side of the slide touches first, the you know the slide is out of adjustment.
  • Does the motor(Under the bed?) make a clicking sound at the bad spot? If so, look at the motor housing for cracks. The housing may be spreading apart allowing the gear teeth to snap pass each other. Mine did this and I fixed it by strengthening the motor housing with several large metal hose clamps. Works well. Those motors are VERY expensive.
  • Disengage or remove the motor just short of your stick point. Does the motor run ok from that point?? Can you push the slide in from that point??? One of the two is sticking/hanging up, but until you isolate the problem you won't be able to apply a fix. :) :)
