Power Tech Generator leaking antifreeze

Good Afternoon,
I'm new to the website. My wife and I bought a used 2006 Newmar Ventana DP in January. It's a well made unit that has been taken care of, only 30,000 miles. We have had a Fleetwood Prowler trailer and a Crossroads fifth-wheel in the past. Plan on retiring into this unit someday. Our first trip to Flordia for spring break when great, nice way to travel. Last week the 8000 watt Cat powered generator in front began to leak antifreeze, it's not even been used. Has anybody else had this problem? We bought an extended service contract from our RV dealer but the nearest Cat service center is 100 miles away.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

  • Go to Lowe's or home depot and spend $200 on a camera made by rigid or eq. Will allow you to see into areas before tearing things apart. A very good tool to have in your tool box. There is even a light on the tip to illuminate dark areas.
  • Thanks for the reply, my generator is not on a slide so that means crawling under the front of the motorhome. It is completely enclosed with sheetmetal panels and I can't see a leak. I'm gonna try to remove the front panel and look in, thats where the tank is and where the spot is on the driveway. My aftermarket warrenty doesn't require a CAT dealer so I'm going to check a fleet repair shop in town.
  • Welcome to the forum. Although I haven't had any issues with mine, I have the same generator. I would start by sliding the generator out and see if you can locate the source. It may be as simple as a loose hose clamp or possibly the plastic expansion tank is cracked. If you are not into repairing it yourself, you do not necessarily need to find a CAT service center. Depending on the problem RV dealers, mobile techs or even a good repair shop may be a good place to start. Try checking here for a local shop with good reviews:

You may also try contacting your Extended Warranty company for a recommendation, but depending on the problem this may or may not be covered. Good luck.
