Power Windshield Shade Issue

The power windshield shades quit recently and neither the day or night shade would retract. I called Thor and the the manufacturer, AutoMotion for tech advice. Both were very helpful but nothing worked. I found the appropriate fuse in the fuse box for the shades and it was fine. I later discovered that the cigarette lighter style power ports in the dash were not working either....coincidence? I checked that fuse and it was blown. I put a new fuse in and guess what?...yes, the power ports and the shades worked again! Weird, but happy I am not replacing $800 shades.

    Sounds more like the shades were installed aftermarket and someone just picked up on the closest "always on" power source, that being the power ports. If you want to make things less confusing with the setup, you could eliminate the fuse you indicated you found for the shades and direct wire them as they would already be fused on the power port circuit.
