Privacy Curtain Solution for Class C's

Just wanted to share a mod that I did with my RV yesterday. I wanted a privacy curtain so that people could not see into the RV from the front window. There were many options but many were expensive and I was looking for something simple that I could do for under 20 bucks.

So I took some industrial strength velcro from Walmart:

Then I cut 3 foot strips and attached one part to the cabover bunk floor and the other part to a "room darkening" privacy curtain I bought at walmart for 10 bucks. I turned the curtain sideways and it fit perfectly.

Tada, finished product.

I know that many people want to have a view of their cockpit so this won't work for everyone, but for those who don't mind and want a very simple solution, this could work for you.

All components picked up at Walmart for about 17 bucks total. Total time to assemble: 12 minutes.

The curtain folds away neatly behind the dinette when you're done using it.

  • I did a similar mod to our C. My DH had installed a bar across the edge of the bunks to keep the grandkids from falling out at night. He used closet rod mounts with one end open at the top so we can lift the rod up to remove it. I never liked the windshield curtain so I went to Walmart and purchased 2 thermal insulated curtain panels, $20 total. I cut them to length and hung them on the bar and I can open the in the day and pull them closed at night. It is amazing too that while traveling the cab can get very hot but when we stop I close the curtain, turn on the air conditioner and the difference in the temperatures is amazing! Makes the living space so much more comfortable and so easy to have privacy. If it's real hot, I still stick the Reflectix panel in the windshield.
  • Did the exact same thing last year and it worked great in the winter months. But when we were parked in the Florida heat, the adhesive liquified and everything went slip-sliding away.
  • I have a similar set up and I also added one of those sun reflectors attached to the front window. During spring and fall camping the curtain separating the cab area saves on heat when the furnace is running.
  • That is a GREAT and simple solution. We will definitely make something similar.

  • What I'd consider doing is perhaps combining that with Reflectix facing the cab side. This would keep the heat out in summer, heat in in winter. With the black curtain, it would look pretty good.

If I had a "C", I'd probably do two layers -- Reflectix backed on Coroplast (set up to be foldable and out of the way), then a curtain to cover it (for additional insulation and aesthetic value.)

    Real nice DIY!

Not only is this good for privacy issues it is the PERFECT DIY for use during the winter and summer months to keep the cold and/or heat from the cab area from coming into the rest of the MH. A must have if you expect your heater or AC to be able to keep the coach comfortable in a Class C.

You could also solve the privacy issue by placing a windshield sun shade in the front window of the MH and they make a pop up circle shade that fits on the side windows. That's what I use for quick overnight stops.
