Hello, I have a question concerning property tax payments on motorized rv’s. We are brand new to the RV community, we have a 38’ Georgetown 5 series 2018 motorhome. We are not considered full time just weekends as for now. Recently we received our property tax paperwork that required information that would give us the opportunity to be taxed at 6.5% instead of 10%. Can anyone please tell me how would I go about figuring out the tax info for the state of SC? Just want to stay abreast on my tax options. Thank you for any help.Blessings

You have to pay as much as 10% property tax on a motorhome?? Is that every year??? Yeah, think I'd move. Even California doesn't do that to you.

I would get with a SC Tax person and inquire

I just went through this in Richland county. What the accessors office told me is that ALL motorhomes are already taxed at 6%. You don’t need to file a form. TT’s, and fivers can apply for a second home exemption and then there rate will drop to 6% instead of 10. This may vary by county so you should call your county tax office. You will want to check your tax renewal notice next year as they initially increased the value of my Newmar. That is not going to happen so I called and they adjusted the value.

Gee. the only "Tax" i pay on the RV is teh annual LIcense plate fee, they re-structured a few years (Decades) Back so it is now a "property Tax" under federal lawe.. less than 500 on my house.

Interesting that adds up to a lot of money. In Vermont we now pay 6% sales tax when you purchase it and $86.00 per year to register it. That's it. No additional charges.

Every states taxing scheme is different. I doubt everybody telling how it is in their particular state is of much assistance to the OP.

In NC, a Class A is considered personal property and is taxed like a car/truck when you renew your license plate. Same as a tag-along or any other trailer like a boat or utility trailer that has to be licensed. The actual boat itself has to be listed each year, but is still considered personal property that is taxable. We now have to pay the property tax at the same time that we renew our plates. We also have the option to get multi-year plates for trailers and with that we have to list the property each year with the tax office.

Are you sure the $500 max applies to the annual county property tax...not the state max of $500 when you first register the the MH??? How much is the annual county property tax on that 1.5 million PREVOST???

Hah! In Alaska when you turn 65 you go in for your Permanent registration. They give you a red year sticker with a P on it for permanent and you never have to register the MH again and there's no taxes. In the process of doing it with all of my trailers and vehicles.

Sitting in El Mirage, AZ at the moment with a spiffy new red P sticker on my license plate.

6% of assessed value which is about 4% I think in most county's. Almost the cheapest tax of any state.
