Puck Light Trim Rings

When we bought our coach last year most of the lights had been converted to LED but there are still a few with halogen bulbs. I started playing around with various LEDS styles, color, and etc before finally deciding on what I want to use....so I bought a bunch.

When I started to replace the halogens I quickly found out why the PO didn't finish the job...the rings absolutely do not want to come off.

These are 3" brass rimed RV Luminaire 6n46 lights and I've tried everything I can think of to get them to rotate to no avail.

If anyone has a magic method I would love to hear about it.
  • You might try a rubber or silicone jar opening aide. Also, try when they are cold, when hot, they seem to expand and grip tighter. Both of these have worked for us. Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert

I tried the bottle top remover thingy and, while it gripped well nothing happened. Tomorrow, I'll give them a go when the temps are lower.
  • Run something thin, like a credit card between the ring and surface above it. They sometimes stick together and keep it from turning or make it extremely difficult to turn

Do the credit card thing and then push up and turn CCA.
  • The credit card was a good idea. It also made me realize that on these particular lights the screws don't actually go into the overhead but are more like a jam screw between the light body and the edge of the hole. The upshot is that with a bit of luck you can just pop the light out without removing the bezel.
  • There is an old trick removing len's filters with a shoe lace or piece of aquarium air hose. You surround the ring and cinch it up with your fingers. This puts equal pressure on the ring and won't allow it to distort and wedge itself on. Then twist counter clockwise with the strap. (Exit- fixed iphone spelling).
