Puzzled-power window and power mirrors

I was putting the power window up and it had slowed down and then stopped. No power to the window or power mirrors. Everything else works. I triple checked all fuses, both under the dash and on the firewall. I took off the door panel and hot wired from battery to get the window up in case it rained. The window went up and all wires looked ok. I checked all fuses with a meter and all checked ok. I do not see any in line fuses. There are some small box like fuses? On the fuses panels. Any suggestions on what to try next.

  • The "small box-like fuses" are probably self-resetting circuit breakers. They are often found in circuits that need to have power restored automatically after an overload, such as headlight circuits. If your problem is one of those, replace it but look further to find if there is an intermittent short that's tripping it, or if the window motor is binding or otherwise causing an overload.
  • My Pace has the power windows and mirrors fused in the battery control center. My BCC is located under the hood driver's side.
    What chassis?
  • Do not think it is the switch as the power heated mirrors will not work. They are a separate switch. I have looked at all fuses three times and they all look fine. I will keep looking but both my son and myself see only one in line fuse and it is good. What puzzles me is that in all the manuals I find no mention about the power windows or power heated mirrors.

Contact the chassis manufacturer to ask where another fuse may be located. Possibly inline?

Maybe the switch, itself, has failed. I have had to replace switches before. Take the switch out and check for 12v on one of the terminals. No power, the problem is between the switch and battery. Trace the wire back till you find power.

If you do have power, short between the two terminals. If the window moves, the switch is bad. If the window still does not move, the problem is between the switch and the window. Again, follow the wire to where you lose power.

At least you are isolating the location of the problem.

Question about your checking fuses with a meter. Did you pull the fuses to check them? Sometimes, checking a fuse in place will give a false reading of a good fuse.
  • I have looked in hopes of finding another fuses panel. I only found the two that I mentioned already.
