quadrajet replacement

This is what I need to replace. The cheep rebuilt I find is around 320 for a 750cfm and 400 for a 800cfm. Anybody have any ideas. Is there a Different manufactory that may fit?? There seems to be a Holly that is compatible, but all so around 400.

  • Holley made a direct replacement for the Quadrajet called a spread-bore pattern. The nice thing about the Holley was that it was pretty much a direct replacement and you could easily change the jets in it to adjust for optimum fuel usage or economy. They are still out there. I believe it came in 650 and 800cfm sizes, maybe more now.
Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert
  • You can also find carbs that have already been rebuilt on Ebay. I'd do the repair kit.
  • If you decide not to go the rebuild route on the one you have, contact Edelbrock for the correct replacement and then shop that number on the web.

  • I've rebuilt dozens of these, which means anyone with a couple of screwdrivers, a pair of needle nose pliers, half a brain and can follow instructions should be able to as well. No black magic here.

Although the Holley AFB is a better carb... You'll need to be able to bend and move fuel lines. Normally you would fill the tube with sand and bend it, but I recommend getting a tube bender and flaring kit instead.
  • Would it be worth upgrading to a fuel injection system? Just a quick at Summit Racing shows a decent looking kit for under $800. I don't know if this is all inclusive, it looks like it might be.

  • Why do you need to replace it? x3 on finding a good carburetor repairman and getting an informed estimate. Look for an old-timer or a racing shop. Having said that, an expert carb mechanic is not cheap. I just dropped $700 on a rebuild that was needed for my HR to pass emissions. It was a lot but the results were outstanding. However, my last motorhome, a '72, was exempt from emissions. I took out the original carb and put an Edelbrock on it. I was much happier with it. It was very easy to work on and tune. I sometimes wish that I could do the same for my HR.

Get a kit and rebuild the carb you have or have a professional rebuild it for you. Would save a ton of money. No need to buy a new one.
